The Sunday Reset: 3 Simple Habits for a Stress-Free Week
Lisa WoodsWe’ve all been there: Monday morning rolls around, the alarm goes off, and suddenly you’re in a mad dash. You’re staring blankly at your wardrobe, scrambling to throw together a semi-decent lunch, and trying to remember that urgent task you swore you wouldn't forget. It’s exhausting before the week has even begun.
I decided I was done starting my weeks in survival mode. The secret? Reducing the mental load before Monday hits. I implemented a Sunday Reset routine - three simple habits that take just a couple of hours but completely transform how my week runs. If you want to save time, money, and your sanity, here is what I do every Sunday to set the whole family up for success.
1. The Wardrobe Pre-Game: Outfit Planning & Ironing
There is nothing worse than standing in front of a rail of clothes feeling like you have absolutely nothing to wear while the clock ticks down.
Every Sunday, I pick out my outfits for the entire week, from Monday to Friday.
-
I pull out the clothes, match the layers, and give them a quick iron or steam if they need it.
-
I hang them in order at the front of my wardrobe.
Why it works: It eliminates decision fatigue first thing in the morning. I get to sleep in an extra 10 minutes, and I start the day feeling put-together instead of rushed and I don't need to think about it.
2. Fuel for the Family: Prepping Lunches
When I don’t plan my lunches, one of two things happens: I either end up eating a sad, mediocre sandwich, or I spend way too much money grabbing snacks instead of having something proper to eat.
On Sundays, I spend a little time prepping lunches for the week. This doesn’t mean cooking a five-star meal for five days straight; even just making sure there is food in to cover each day for everyone in the house and knowing what everyone is having can make a difference.
It’s not just for me but also the children's packed lunches.
-
I map out exactly what they are having each day and make as much as I can so that we can just pop everything into a lunchbox each morning.
The double win:
-
Health: I don’t have to think about what we are eating, which stops me from making impulsive, unhealthy choices when the midday hunger hits.
-
Wealth: My bank account thanks me. Those £5 to £10 daily lunch runs add up incredibly fast, and prepping the kids' lunches prevents that chaotic 7am panic of realizing you've run out of bread.
3. The Brain Dump: Writing the To-Do List
A lot of our Sunday anxiety comes from trying to hold too much information in our heads at once. To lighten the mental load, I sit down with a notebook (which I made from these planner pages) and do a complete brain dump. Both for personal and work stuff.
I write out a definitive list of everything that must get done in the coming week, then I break it down:
-
Daily tasks distributed evenly so I don’t overwhelm myself on Monday.
-
Family admin (like school forms, club schedules, or food shopping).
Why it works: Seeing it all on paper takes the pressure off my brain. I go to sleep on Sunday night knowing exactly what the game plan is for the week ahead.
Your Turn to Reset
You don’t need to overhaul your entire life to feel more organised. Start small! Pick just one of these habits to try this coming Sunday and see how much lighter your Monday feels.
